South Coast Plaza (aka “the happiest place on earth”) is in the middle of its three-day style celebration “Live the Look” this weekend.
First up was a fall fashions presentation featuring designer/celebrity stylist and reality TV personality Rachel Zoe. The petite blond (dressed in a black Fendi midi dress) presented a runway show fall fashions from some of South Coast Plaza’s luxury designer boutiques.
Zoe, an obvious fashion enthusiast, drooled over the looks from Gucci, Max Mara, Salvatore Ferragamo, Ralph Lauren, Brunello Cuncinelli, Barbara Bui, Fendi, Chloe, Oscar de la Renta, Roberto Cavalli, Versace and Lanvin at South Coast Plaza Thursday night.
“Fall fashion means layering; it’s an excuse to wear more clothes,” said Zoe, pointing out what most true fashion fiends feel: Fall is the best season of the year.
For some reason there is nothing more exciting to a fashionista than the prospect of a winter’s day giving you permission to layer on boots, coats, scarves and other accessories. Especially here in Southern California where such days are as rare as an O.C. Housewife in a turtleneck sweater.
The presentation by Zoe included all the fall trends/staples: Fur, green, luxe leather, big wrap coats, capes and boots. Coats, furs, layers of cashmere from Max Mara, Gucci, Barbara Bui and Fendi, were on display as well as cocktail and red carpet dresses from Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Lanvin and Oscar de la Renta.
The Live the Look runway show (co-sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter), which involved the models walking around guests on white leather settees, was casual but elegant and drew a crowd of about 1,200 people — largely because of Zoe but also because this fall is, as South Coast Plaza’s Executive Director of Marketing, Debra Gunn Downing put it, particularly “dynamic”.
After the runway show models showcased looks styled by O.C. stylists from South Coast Plaza retailers such as Missoni, Bally, and Diane Von Furstenberg. Our friend Leslie Christen (click here for info on her styling class next week) presented a classic and sleek ensemble featuring a cape and bag from Porsche Design.
The festivities at South Coast Plaza continue Saturday, Oct. 11, 2-4 p.m. at the Macy’s Home Store/Crate and Barrel wing with a retailers’ trend presentation featuring clothing from Mason & Scotch, DKNY, Joe’s Jeans and more.
